when do i start doing my taxes?
im 18, and im attending college. i also live with my parents. i dont own anything except for what my parents gave me (like games and electronics). the car i use to get to school isnt under my name either. what do i have to do to start getting that 1040 tax thing? does it magically appear in the mail when i start gaining capital? or do i have to apply for it?
Okay, this is how it works. If you do anything that requires you to file taxes, usually working, then you will get a form in the mail that you use to complete a tax form like the 1040. The 1040 and all other tax forms are available at your local library. you only need to worry about this if you get a tax form in the mail. these usually come in January. Just because you turn 18 does not mean you start paying taxes, so don’t worry. I mean we all pay taxes they are a part of buying gum even. The whole tax thing is only related to income tax though. If you get SSI or school loans I believe you get a tax statement also. If you don’t work, get disability, or school loans you are good and don’t have anything to worry about. You are still considered a dependent at this point and are still your parents little tax credit.
